Partnering with the SPCA to offer surgery, treatment and adoption assistance for injured homeless animals

Highland Park Animal Hospital and the SPCA of Texas have partnered to form the Hard Luck Hound & Kitty Society. This partnership allows for the treatment of injured dogs and cats at no cost to the SPCA.

Each month a new dog or cat is presented for evaluation and treatment of a serious medical condition. The veterinarians at Highland Park Animal Hospital devise a treatment plan based on physical examination, radiographs, blood work and other diagnostics. Most candidates require some surgical procedure or medical treatment that is cost-prohibitive to the SPCA, such as fracture repair, arthrodesis, exploratory laparatomy or complicated heartworm treatment.

During the postoperative period the staff of Highland Park Animal Hospital provides compassionate nursing care for these patients. The socialization they receive during this time greatly enhances their adoptability later. When they are sufficiently recovered they are placed in permanent, loving homes.
