THE DOCTORS OF HIGHLAND PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL Dr. John Vandermeer Dr. John Vandermeer is a native of Highland Park and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1983. He received his undergraduate education in Biomedical Science at Texas A & M University and his Veterinary degree from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation in 1990, Dr. Vandermeer returned to Dallas and joined Highland Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Vandermeer's professional interests include orthopedic surgery and endoscopy. In 2001 he founded the Hard Luck Hound and Kitty Society which works in conjunction with the Dallas SPCA to provide medical services to seriously ill or injured homeless animals. He is a member of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association Board of Directors, the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board and also serves on the governing board of the Emergency Animal Clinic. Dr. Vandermeer is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Feline Practicioners. He and his wife Dr. Wendy Dearixon live in University Park with their 3 children Emily, Marshall and Hannah. In his spare time Dr. Vandermeer enjoys playing basketball, fishing and spending time at his country retreat with his family. They have two dogs and two cats - George, Pedro, Ed and Harley. Dr. Gary (Randy) Harrell Dr. Randy Harrell received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1966 from Texas A&M University. After graduation Dr. Harrell served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps with his primary duties including food and dairy product inspection. In 1968 Dr. Harrell joined Dr. Al Hopkins at Highland Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Harrell has served as President of both the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation. His professional interests include orthopedic and general surgery, and small animal internal medicine. Dr. Harrell and his wife Jeanene have five children, all living in the Dallas area, and eleven grandchildren. When not at the clinic, Dr. Harrell enjoys church activities, golf, picking the 5-string bluegrass banjo and spending time at his East Texas farm in Wood County. Dr. Polly Dixon Dr. Polly Dixon considers both Colorado and New Mexico home. She received her undergraduate education in Microbiology at Colorado State University and her Veterinary degree at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated with honors and distinguished herself by receiving the Merk award for outstanding clinical performance as a 4th year student. Dr. Dixon has been with Highland Park Animal Hospital for 10 years and her areas of special interest include feline and canine internal medicine, clinical pathology and critical care. She is a member of the Phi Zeta National Veterinary Honor Society, the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Dixon has four cats, Anastasia, Bonzerelli, Groucho and Oliver. Dr. Ben Morse Dr. Ben Morse grew up in Richardson, Texas and attended Berkner High School. He received his veterinary prerequisites from Hendricks College in Arkansas and began his veterinary medical studies at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts with an emphasis on zoonotic diseases. He finished his clinical rotations at Oklahoma State University and joined Highland Park Animal Hospital in 2003. Dr. Morse's special interests include ultrasonography, internal medicine and surgery. He is a member of the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association, the Texas Veterinary Medical Foundation and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Morse enjoys being outdoors and is an avid runner and golfer. He has a Labrador Retriever named Bernie. Dr. Amanda Henry Dr. Amanda Henry is a native of Houston and a new Dallas resident. She is a two-time graduate of Texas A&M University receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 2003 and in 2007 her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include surgery and shelter medicine. Dr. Henry is a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary National Honor Society and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Henry and her husband have two adorable miniature dachshunds, Abe and Lincoln. In her free time, she enjoys watching college sports and spending time with family and friends. |
