MEDICAL TREATMENTS AND SURGERY MEDICAL TREATMENTS Preventative health care is the cornerstone of progressive veterinary medicine. We tailor vaccination and parasite prevention programs to fit your pet's individual needs. Yearly physical, dental and orthopedic examinations, as well as routine dental prophylaxis help keep your pet healthy. When your pet is ill we are able to employ a wide range of diagnostic modalities within our hospital to diagnose the problem as quickly as possible. Diagnostic imaging and blood work including radiography, endoscopy, ultrasonography, CBC, electrolytes and serum chemistries are all evaluated within our hospital so that results can be available within minutes instead of days. This information enables your pet to receive necessary treatment as soon as possible. For testing more appropriately performed by outside labs, such as cultures, hormone assays and histopathology we use a number of local and nationwide laboratories. Ultrasonography is another non-invasive imaging method used to assess internal organs. While x-rays can reveal size, shape and location, ultrasound can look at the internal architecture of an organ such as the heart to reveal valvular problems or the uterus to reveal the presence and viability of a pregnancy. Endoscopy uses fiberoptics to provide direct visualization of internal organs. It is a valuable tool in the diagnosis of many gastrointestinal conditions. It also facilitates the placement of feeding tubes and the procurement of biopsy samples. Radiographs or x-rays are commonly taken to evaluate the size, shape and location of internal organs and the integrity of bones and joints. They can reveal a wide variety of disorders from broken bones to lost toys.SURGERY The veterinarians at Vickery Place Animal Hospital perform surgery Monday through Friday to accommodate your busy schedule. Our surgical suite is fully equipped with the latest anesthetic monitoring equipment to ensure your pet's safety during procedures. Our doctors routinely perform spays and neuters as well as other soft tissue surgeries. They also perform many orthopedic procedures including fracture repairs and ACL surgeries. Routine protocol requires that food be withheld from your dog or cat after 8 p.m. the evening prior to any anesthetic procedure. Please continue to offer water and give medications per doctor's instructions. Please arrive at the clinic between 8 and 9 a.m. the morning of surgery and bring with you any current vaccine or other health records you may have. Time of discharge is at the discretion of the surgeon and will vary with the procedure. DNA BREED TESTING We are now offering the Mars Wisdom PanelTM MX Mixed Breed Analysis test, the most comprehensive DNA-based mixed breed test for dogs. It identifies more than 130 AKC-recognized breeds that may be present in mixed breed dogs and will allow us to determine the breed mix of your dog. Ask us about it! BATHS We offer baths Monday through Friday as well as medicated baths for pets with sensitive skin. Plan to drop off your pet between 8 and 9 a.m. and pick up after 3 p.m. the same day.
